The Faces of the Victims

Our Role: Video projection solution

Client: Jewish Museum in Prague

Years: 2017

Location: Prague, Czech Republic

This project is a noteworthy one. Not only because of its profound significance, but also because we consider it to be the very first project that st dio worked on.

The task assigned for the project entailed the creation of a permanent video projection without sound, intended for projection onto the facade of the Pinkas Synagogue after nightfall. The project specifications included system automation, the capability to display a variety of projections, the incorporation of additional content and optimization of maintenance and operator control requirements.

The reverent nature of the exhibition at the Pinkas Synagogue is rooted in the fundamental principle of passing on knowledge and information to forthcoming generations. As a component of the content solution, our proposal involved capturing the projection in a cinematic format, depicting the hands of an elderly woman showing and passing along photographs of Shoah victims. The projection features photos of varying quality and content, including images of individuals, families, school portraits, and snapshots from family albums, thereby representing members of diverse professions and generations. The unconventional shape of the projection surface, resembling the shield of the mikveh, serves to frame the space where the hands are in motion.
